1) Gabriele D'Annunzio, an famous Italian poet, novelist and dramatist, a military hero and a supporter of fascist political ideas. In his work D'Annunzio combined naturalism, symbolism and erotic images, becoming in this way the best interpreter of European Decadence during Italian post–Risorgimento. His love affairs, his relationship with the world-famous actress Eleanora Duse, his heroic adventures during World War I and his occupation of Fiume in 1919 made of him a legend in his own time.
2) The 3 National Parks, where you can find rare animals, such as the Marsican Brown Bear also known as Apennine brown bear, is a highly threatened subspecies of the Brown bear, with a range restricted to Abruzzo National Park, The population of the subspecies is estimated at between 30 and 40 bears.
3) The cooking, The most famous dish of Abruzzo is maccheroni alla chitarra, made with the help of an implement known as chitarra (guitar). This piece of equipment is made up of a wooden frame strung with parallel steel wires; a rolling pin pushes the sheet of pasta dough--made of durum wheat and eggs-- through the strings which cut the dough in the characteristic shape of spaghetti.
But one thing not many people know is the small knitwear company based in Gran Sasso, called Gran Sasso. They produce ‘la qualità è sempre di moda’ knitwear. Which translates to ‘the quality is always in the fashion'. Our pick of the season was the vintage washed V-neck jumper, this is a simple yet sophisticated example of the brand Gran Sasso. It is completely versatile, it can be work casually with a pair of jeans, or looks fabulous under an Italian suit. The quality of the produce shows not only in the garment they make for themselves, but in the fact many large Italian companies trust them to make their knitwear.
